What Is an AI Solution Blueprint? Canvas Outputs

A model with many useful views
  1. 1Understand and prove
  2. 2Design the solution
  3. 3Plan the build

Review inputs and deliberately refresh outputs when the model changes.

An AI solution blueprint is a plain-language design of how an AI solution would work: the components, systems, recommendations and open concerns the design must address. Canvas turns its shared model into that blueprint and its other outputs.

The Canvas and Agentic Brain provide a shared model of the opportunity. Outputs turn that model into material for a particular decision or audience. They support review and implementation planning; they do not make the underlying assumptions true.

Understand: review what the team knows

Use Overview to review the authored Canvas, Summary to explain the project to stakeholders, and Slides to support a presentation. Export collects the available download, copy, and print options. Generated content can become stale after the Canvas changes; review freshness and refresh it before using it in a new decision.

Prove: examine readiness and value

AI Readiness assesses evidence across data, process, decisions, stakeholders, and governance. Agentic ROI asks whether the value case is supported and what baselines remain missing. Gap Assessment brings unresolved issues into an executive planning conversation.

These assessments answer different questions. A promising value case can still have serious readiness gaps. A readiness score is not a success probability or authorization to build. See Agentic ROI for the difference between value confidence and financial estimates.

Design: start with the solution blueprint

Generate the Solution blueprint first. It brings the discovery context into a proposed solution, including the components, recommendations, systems, and open concerns the design must address.

The next outputs serve distinct purposes:

  • Solution diagram: a Mermaid diagram showing solution components, systems, and relationships. Review the proposed connections with the people who know the real operation.
  • Agents: definitions for the agent components in the blueprint, including triggers, inputs, outputs, tools, instructions, guardrails, and handoffs.
  • Security Review: a high-level planning assessment informed by the Canvas and generated agents. It organizes security and governance questions for qualified review.

The diagram and agent definitions both derive from the blueprint. Changing one does not silently redesign the other. Security Review assesses the generated agents; its findings are not a certification, penetration test, legal opinion, or complete threat model.

Build: prepare an implementation plan

The Implementation plan translates the design into phased activities, deliverables, and success criteria. It uses the agent definitions and solution diagram, so generate and review its prerequisites first. When required inputs are missing, the app points you to the owning page.

A generated plan is a starting point for the delivery team. Confirm feasibility, responsibilities, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and costs with the people who will implement and operate it. It does not establish that working software has been built or deployed.

A solution may need no agents

Not every useful solution requires autonomous agents. A blueprint can recommend other components, such as an AI gateway, conventional integration, guardrails, or a human-review step.

When no agent components are needed, the Agents page explains that design choice. An implementation plan can still be useful. Running or deploying agents requires agents to exist; an empty roster is not something to execute.

Take the right assets to the next conversation

You do not need every output to share an idea. Choose the material that helps the reader make the next decision, then check its assumptions and freshness.

What the export bundles contain

The Export hub offers these compositions when their required source artifacts exist. Each has a compiled preview, a Markdown download and browser Print / Save as PDF.

BundleRequired contentContents
Executive briefSummarySummary, Agentic ROI, Gap Assessment and stored AI Readiness when available.
Implementation packImplementation plan and agent workflowImplementation plan, agent specifications and the solution diagram when available.
Security packSecurity ReviewSecurity Review and agent workflow when available; otherwise it states that the assessment is Canvas-level.
Proposal supportSummary and Implementation planSummary, ROI, Implementation plan and Security Review when available.

The Solution blueprint is a separate Markdown or print/PDF export; it is not currently included in the Implementation pack. The hub also offers individual exports, including diagram PNG, Agents Markdown, ROI Markdown/copy, Gap Assessment and printable slides, subject to their required inputs. These are planning documents, not working software. If the design needs no agents, use the individual Implementation plan and Solution blueprint exports; the current Implementation pack still requires an agent workflow.

What a shared reader receives

Share supports authenticated viewer/editor invitations and selected read-only public links. Public links can expose Canvas overview, Summary, Implementation plan, agent workflow, diagram, Solution blueprint and a readiness score. They do not currently offer dedicated ROI, Gap Assessment or Security Review selections. Use an appropriate exported document or collaborator access when those are needed.

A public link reads the current saved content when opened and can be revoked by the owner. An exported file is a copy taken at a point in time. Neither action records stakeholder acceptance. Before sending, explain why you are sharing, what remains unknown, and what you want the reader to decide. Review the actual recipient view, since it differs from the Export hub.

Current export availability checks whether required content exists. It does not certify that the sources are current or that the plan has been approved. Review artifact freshness yourself; a bundle's composition date is not proof that every included source was refreshed.

Optional execution previews

Run the agents and Deploy depend on features enabled in your environment. They are gated previews, disabled by default, and may not appear in the public application.

Where Run the agents is enabled, you prepare evaluation cases and review a run plan before execution. In-app runs are labelled simulated: they do not use live tools, and supplied fixtures stand in for declared lookups. A synthetic rehearsal is not proof that a production integration works. Review proposed judgments and confirm case results before treating the accuracy figure as accepted evidence.

Where n8n support is enabled, deployment targets an instance you control. Deployment and runs have their own explicit actions and prerequisites. The application is not a hosted production runtime for your agents, and editing a Canvas does not automatically redeploy a workflow.

Refresh outputs deliberately

Generated artifacts record their inputs. A Stale badge means those inputs have changed since generation. The shared model keeps the outputs related; it does not keep every generated document automatically current.

When related outputs need attention, regeneration can present a dependency-aware refresh dialog:

  1. Review the missing or stale upstream inputs it proposes to generate first.
  2. Review the selected artifact and any downstream outputs proposed for refresh.
  3. Confirm the scope. Checked steps run in dependency order.
  4. Check the result. If a step fails, completed content is retained and later steps are skipped; unrefreshed dependents can remain stale.

When no related refresh is needed, regeneration can remain a single-artifact action. Run jobs and deployment are not steps in this refresh chain. An existing deployment may need separate attention after its inputs change; choose whether to redeploy only after review.

Use output conversations to understand, then act in the right place

Brain conversations on Overview, Summary, Slides, AI Readiness and ordinary Outputs can explain or critique what is present and recommend a next step without editing the Canvas or regenerating artifacts. ROI chat can save explicit answers to its active baseline question and apply baseline proposals you accept; it cannot edit authored Canvas sections. Where the optional Run the agents preview is enabled, explicit approved proof actions are separate from ordinary output chat.

Return to the Canvas or Brain to correct the source model. Use an artifact's owning page when you want to generate or refresh it. Before sharing, check the content, assumptions, freshness, and intended audience together.

To see the sections these outputs are built from, read the Canvas guide.

To write the pilot down, use the agentic AI implementation plan. For the limits that apply to every output, read governance and safety. The planning framework explains the method, and how the app works shows where outputs fit in the journey.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI solution blueprint?

A plain-language design of how the AI solution would work, with the components, systems, recommendations and open concerns the design must address. Limits for individual agents come from the agent definitions generated from it. It is a basis for a conversation with the people who will build or approve it.

What is in an implementation plan?

The steps to take a project forward from the Canvas, prepared for review. For the six-step method and a fill-in template, see the agentic AI implementation plan guide.

Does a blueprint mean the solution is approved?

No. Outputs are decision aids. They support review and do not make the underlying assumptions true.

Do I need agents at all?

Not necessarily. A solution may need no agents, and the blueprint can show that a simpler change is enough.
